8. The Black Widow Murders
In 1999, an elderly homeless man named Paul Vados was found dead of an apparent hit and run accident. In the two years prior to his death, Helen Golay and Olga Rutterschmidt had taken out eight different life insurance policies out on Vados. These policies weren’t any good with Vados still alive, so the black widows took matters into their own hands and killed him. In June 2005, another homeless man, Kenneth McDavid, was also killed after being hit by a car. Golay and Rutterschmidt took out a total of thirteen policies on McDavid that totaled $3,700,000.00. This time, police had surveillance video of the car that struck McDavid. In October of 2006, the women were arrested for two murders and conspiracy to murder. Both women were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
